Roland Garros Quarterfinals Update

First of all, congrats to Arnold for regaining the #1 position on the overall standings in the ATP Fantasy League. In fact, "The Team That Rocked The Open" is ahead of its' closest follower by 20 points and by 40+ points over the #3 team. An all Spanish final of any type at this point would ensure Arnold to remain at #1 until Wimbledon.
Arnold's other team "Team Rock Solid 3" remains at #2, and top 10 in the overall league. If Agassi wins Roland Garros, it will challenge for the top spot.

Big congratulations goes to Sol for moving into the top 25 in the overall league and to #3 in the CC Tennis Show sub-league. Sol still has 6 out of 8 players alive in the quarterfinals. Wow!

Sorn has "Team SWS" and "Team Hopeful" following at #4 and #5.

Folks, now there are 9 teams out of CC Tennis Show sub-league in the top 100. In fact, how well this sub-league does can be explained by the following: "Center Court Show" owned by Mertov was in the 700's in the overall league and #35 in the sub-league before Roland Garros started. Now "Center Court Show" is #508 in the overall league (200+ spots higher) and still only #34 in the sub-league!

It looks more and more like we might have a Ferrero vs. Agassi finals. But there are some strong players in the quarters who may have something to say about that. Carlos Moya, Fernando Gonzales, Albert Costa (amazingly in the quarters), Guillermo Coria, Tommy Robredo are all extremely able players. Verkerk seems to be the only outsider in the quarterfinals.

The level of tennis at Roland Garros so far has been equal to the level of our sub-league's performance :o)). Quarterfinals should be a lot of fun.

Roland Garros 3rd Round Update

We are down to the last 16 players in Paris. "Gone" are Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt. "Should have been gone" is Albert Costa after three 5-set matches and total of 12 hours on the court in the first week, which roughly equals Agassi's time spent on the court in winning Australian Open in January.

Arnold continues his dominance of CC Tennis Show sub-league with his top 2 teams "The Team That Rocked The Open" and "Team Rock Solid 3". "The Team That Rocked The Open" is #2 in the overall ATP league. The good news for him is that the #1 overall leader of the Fantasy League ("Hotshots!!!" by Lulu) has Hewitt on his team and not Moya. Provided Moya does well, look for Arnold to finish this week back at #1 of the overall league. "Team RS3" ranked at #6 in ATP overall, should also do well if Agassi keeps rolling since no other team above him has Agassi.

Sorn is at #3 with "Team SWS" and #26 overall. 8 out his top 10 guys are still alive at RG as of today which is impressive. He does not depend on any huge upsets to enter top 20. All 8 of his guys could possibly win Roland Garros.

Another solid performer this week is Sol with "Un Canto Por La Libertad". Get this: This team has 9 players in the final 16!!! Only 4 other teams in CC Tennis Show sub-league were able to do that: "Team Rock Solid 3" at #2, "This one's for you Michael" at #5, "Teamtopper" at #12, and "TeamSupremo" at #34.

Numbers to prove Center Court Tennis Show sub-league's strength (keep in mind there are 2304 participants):
- 46 out 60 CC Tennis Show sub-league teams are in the top 1000 (that means they are in the top 43 percentile)
- Top 32 teams (that's more than half of the group) is in the top 500
- 8 teams are in the top 100
- 4 teams are in the top 50
- 3 teams are in the top 30
- 2 teams are in the top 10

Some random teams:
"Ni Un Paso Atras" by Sol ranked #10 - If it was not for Ferrero Sol would have missed the boat on this one. Verkerk and Schuettler must do well or this team could drop since it has only 6 players left alive ("only" is used because everyone else in the group seems to be doing well, most with at least 7 players still alive).
"Marikina Inc." by Ricardo ranked #16 - Agassi is the name of the game for this team. The rest of the players still alive are the usual Spanish & Argentinians suspects that most others have.
"100 Aces" by P. Sampras (not the real one) ranked # 25 - Also filled with usual suspects, Schuettler could make the difference along with Zabaleta who despite being Argentinian is not exactly "one of the usual suspects".
"Los cachorros de jam" by eljam3 ranked #33 - If Jiri Novak pulls one of the biggest miracles of all times and wins the French Open look for this team to skyrocket through the rankings.
"Excalibur 017" by Katherine ranked #43 - Same goes for this team if J. Nieminen wins Roland Garros.
Chelle's 4 teams ranked #56-59 - Chelle.... er... Anyone there?

Roland Garros 1st Round Update
(written by Arnold after 1st round, leader of the sub-league and #2 overall)

First of all, I like to comment on everyone's good picks. It is pretty neat to see so many guys picking a variety of players.

Chris's picks looks to make a move as he has Ferreira and Chela. I too have Wayne on my RS3 team and am counting on him to do quite well in RG.

Dan Barreto's team has a lot of big guns: Hewitt, Agassi, Ferrero, Grosjean. If Philippoussis beats Moya tomorrow, things could look very good for Daniel. I expect him to make a big move. Go Go Danniel!

Speaking of Mark, yesterday he had a very tough match against a talented qualifier named Alex Kim. Watch out for the former NCAA champ . This guy is very good.

Rastafari Inc.'s team is solidly built and is quietly creeping up the charts. Look for Brian to be in the top 10 soon.

Frank's VN Tennis is hanging in there and has a couple of good picks. Like Dan, he has picked Hewitt, Ferrero, and Grosjean; a very good 1-2-3 combo...

Neil "The Real Deal" Demons has some agressive picks. Costa, Federer, Grosjean, and Gaudio are on his team. Although Roger is out Neil looks to be in pretty good shape and ready to make a move in the near future.

I also like "Pete Sampras's" team: 100 aces. "Pete" from Peru seems to be serving them up with picks ranging from Moya to Portas. Especially on clay picking a variety of players is the name of the game.

SOL's equipo "Un canto por la libertad" may be the best performing team so far in the tournament. Look at all the green flashes beside her players :).

Ricardo's "Clash" team has been a fixture in the CC top 10 for quite a while now and it looks like it will be that way for a while. Good work!

Sorn...my half-brother twice removed :)...you have maintained a fantasy tennis excellence that few can match. I really like your TEAMWS team: it has Hewitt, Ferrero, Moya, Gonzalez, Gaudio, Nieminen...in other words, great team balance (steady picks mixed with agressive ones). You will be at least in the Top 25 by the tournament's end and hopefully better.

And finally, to the rest of you, keep the faith and have fun. In the end, that's what it's really all about.
